Located in the bustling Ganga Market, at the very heart of Itanagar, the Jama Masjid is the biggest mosque in Arunachal Pradesh. For me, visiting this masjid has been a truly heart-touching experience—it is not only a place of worship but also a center of peace, knowledge, and community bonding.

Here, children regularly learn the Qur’an, carrying forward the spiritual and educational values of Islam.
Congregational Prayers
On Fridays, nearly 1,000 people gather for Jumu’ah (Friday) prayers, filling the mosque with unity and devotion. During Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, this number increases to around 5,000 to 7,000 worshippers, making it one of the largest gatherings in the entire state.
Ramadan and Iftar Traditions
One of the most beautiful things I personally witnessed here is the iftar tradition during Ramadan. Every evening, 500 to 700 people break their fast together. What touched me most is that this iftar is completely free, organized by the Ganga Market Muslim Committee. This generosity truly reflects the kindness and brotherhood of the Muslim community in Itanagar.
Acts of Kindness Beyond the Mosque
Another inspiring thing is how the community celebrates Eid by spreading happiness beyond the masjid. They distribute sweets to patients in hospitals and to people across the city. Such acts of kindness show the spirit of Islam—compassion, love, and humanity.

As someone who travels and shares cultural stories, visiting Jama Masjid Itanagar made me realize how faith and kindness bring people together. The mosque is not just a religious place—it is a symbol of unity, service, and harmony in Arunachal Pradesh.
